Kenya: Nightlife Route, Beaches and Swahili Culture
Eight days of pure fun touring Nairobi's vibrant nightlife, the beach parties of Diani, the Swahili vibe of Mombasa and the magical island of Lamu, where donkeys are the only means of transport and the sunsets are celebrated on a dhow.
Description
Kenya is much more than safaris. Its vibrant nightlife scene, its festive beaches and the fascinating Swahili culture of the coast offer a side of the country many travelers miss. This itinerary is designed for those who want to enjoy the best urban atmosphere in East Africa combined with the magic of the coast. The adventure begins in Nairobi, one of the most cosmopolitan cities on the continent. The Westlands quarter is the epicenter of the nightlife: trendy restaurants, terraces for a cold Tusker at sunset and the legendary Carnivore, a restaurant-club where the meats are roasted in view on enormous grills. Nairobi's nights are electric, with live-music venues mixing afrobeat, genge and international music. Diani Beach, south of Mombasa, is the capital of coastal partying. White-sand beaches that by night transform into stages of starlit parties, beach kiosks with reggae and benga music, and the infectious energy of the Kenyan coast. Mombasa, with its UNESCO World Heritage old town, combines history and fun. Fort Jesus recounts five centuries of history, and when the sun goes down, the rooftops of the old town turn into bars with the best views of the port. Lamu, the car-free island where donkeys are the only transport, is a place outside time: a perfectly preserved Swahili town, with rooftop dinners under the stars and sunset dhow parties you will not forget.
