Essential Algarve: From Faro to Sagres

Eight days of total relaxation in Portugal's Algarve, with dream beaches, boat trips through sea caves, seafood cuisine, and sunsets at the end of the world.

8 days1 countrySpring and summer (May–September) for beach and boating

Description

The Algarve, Portugal's southernmost region, offers the perfect setting to switch off from everyday stress. This itinerary is designed to actively reduce anxiety: no fixed schedules, no rushing, no hurry. It begins in Faro, the capital of the Algarve, where the walled old town invites you to wander through whitewashed streets and leafy squares. The Ria Formosa, a natural park of lagoons and barrier islands, is explored on a peaceful boat ride with birdwatching and seafood. Lunch on fresh seafood at the fishing port is an exercise in mindful slowness. From Faro, the journey continues to Albufeira, where golden sandy beaches and reddish cliffs make the ideal setting for reading and resting. The boat trip to the Benagil Cave, with its natural dome open to the sky, is one of the most photogenic and serene moments of the trip. In Lagos, gentle kayaking at Ponta da Piedade reveals sea grottos and rock formations at an unhurried pace. Praia do Camilo, reached via a wooden staircase, rewards with turquoise waters. The trip ends in Sagres, at the southwestern tip of Europe. Cape St. Vincent, where the sun sets over the Atlantic Ocean, offers a free spectacle every evening. Coastal walks are gentle and contemplative. Long meals of grilled fish with vinho verde accompany each day. There are no packed agendas: every day includes time for the spa, a siesta, or simply watching the sea.

Health & safety

  • The sun in the Algarve is very intense even in spring
  • Sea currents can be dangerous at unsupervised beaches
  • Jellyfish are frequent in August: bring vinegar just in case
  • Tap water in Portugal is drinkable
