Togo Relax: Beaches, Lake, and Mountains in the Heart of the Gulf of Guinea

Six days of tranquility in Togo: the urban beaches of Lomé, boat rides on Lake Togo, the waterfalls and coffee farms of Kpalimé, and the riverside charm of Togoville.

6 days1 countryFrom November to March (dry season, mild temperatures in the mountains)

Description

Togo is a well-kept secret of the Gulf of Guinea: small, manageable, and surprisingly calm for anyone seeking to disconnect. This itinerary begins in Lomé, the most relaxed capital on the coast, where the beaches of the Bè neighborhood offer golden sand, grilled-fish beach bars, and an atmosphere without crowds. The base hotel is a beach resort with hammocks, a pool, and its own restaurant. The first excursion leads to Togoville, a historic village on the shores of Lake Togo: a boat crosses the calm waters between fishing villages and mangroves to the town where the colonial treaty with Germany was signed, visiting the cathedral where John Paul II celebrated Mass. The trip culminates in Kpalimé, a mountain retreat at 300 meters above sea level surrounded by coffee farms, hidden waterfalls, and tropical fruit plantations. Mornings are devoted to gentle trails among coffee trees with stops to taste freshly roasted Togolese coffee, and afternoons to cooling off under the Womé or Kpimé waterfalls. Kpalimé is also an artisan enclave: Friday markets offer batiks, ceramics, and masks from the Ewe ethnic group. Six days of slow pace among lake, mountain, and beach in one of Africa's most underrated countries.
