Singapore and Malacca: heritage cities for the family

Six days between Singapore's technology and Malacca's history in Malaysia, with botanical gardens, street food and interactive museums.

6 days2 countriesAll year round; February-April for less rain

Description

Singapore is Southeast Asia's easiest gateway for families: clean, safe, with the world's best public transport and halal and Western food on every corner. The Gardens by the Bay, with their supertree grove, dazzle children like a botanical amusement park. Sentosa island offers guarded artificial beaches, a world-class aquarium and Southeast Asia's largest Universal Studios complex. Malacca, four hours away by bus, is the counterpoint: a UNESCO heritage city with Portuguese, Dutch and English colonial houses where history strolls by at walking pace in an afternoon. The fusion of Malay, Chinese and Indian cultures produces a cuisine of three continents on one single street. The pace is slow, transport is accessible, and children are met with smiles everywhere.

Health & safety

  • Singapore has Southeast Asia's most advanced healthcare system
  • Jellyfish may appear at Sentosa's beaches from July to September
  • Drink tap water only in Singapore; in Malacca use bottled
  • Up-to-date routine vaccinations are enough for both countries
