Senegal for Families: Safari, Beach and Pink Lake
Seven days in Senegal designed for family enjoyment: safari in Bandia Reserve, the magical Pink Lake, Saly beaches, Gorée Island and a horse-drawn carriage ride through colonial Saint-Louis.
Description
Senegal offers a perfect combination for families: short distances, decent infrastructure and a hospitable culture that adores children. The trip begins in Dakar with the imposing silhouette of the African Renaissance Monument and a 20-minute ferry to Gorée Island, where car-free alleys are a historic playground for little ones. The Maison des Esclaves is visited with respect, but guides know how to adapt the tone when children are present. The next day, Pink Lake (Retba) is one of the greatest natural spectacles a child can see: water that changes color and magical floating due to extremely high salinity. Bandia Reserve, an hour from Saly, offers a safari in an open vehicle where children can see giraffes, rhinos, zebras and antelopes in semi-freedom without the risks of a larger safari. The beaches of Saly, with warm Atlantic waters and golden sand, are the setting for two days of relaxation. The trip culminates in Saint-Louis, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where a horse-drawn carriage ride crosses the metal bridges and colonial houses: an African tale with a happy ending.
