Morocco After Dark: Medinas, Hammams and Party Nights
Eight days among souks, riads, gnawa music and parties: from the rooftops of Marrakech to the beaches of Essaouira, with a stop amid dunes and mountains.
Description
This itinerary is designed to squeeze out Morocco's most vibrant, nocturnal side. It begins in Marrakech, where every evening Jemaa el-Fna square turns into the greatest open-air show in the world: musicians, snake charmers, acrobats and hundreds of food stalls. The nights continue in the medina's rooftops — bars and terraces overlooking the floodlit Koutoubia — and in the clubs of the Palmeraie where electronic music plays until dawn. By day, the exploring goes on: labyrinthine souks, a traditional hammam to start the night clean and renewed, a quad excursion through the rocky desert of Agafay. The trip climbs the Atlas for a day of adventure: rafting on the Ourika river and a hike to the Setti Fatma waterfalls, with a Berber lunch in the mountain. After the adrenaline, calm: two days in Essaouira, the city of the wind. Here the tempo changes: kitesurfing in the bay, the medina's hippie flea market, grilled fish at the harbor, and evenings with live gnawa music in small venues where musicians play until the body gives out. Eight days of contrast between Marrakech's sensory explosion and Essaouira's salty breeze.
