Jordan in Depth: from Roman Ruins to the Red Sea
Eight days exploring Jordan's treasures: Amman's Citadel, the Roman ruins of Jerash, the legendary Petra, the Wadi Rum desert, the Dead Sea and the beaches of Aqaba.
Description
Jordan condenses some of the Middle East's most fascinating sites into a compact territory. This 8-day itinerary runs the country from north to south, starting in the capital Amman with its Citadel and Roman theatre. From there you visit Jerash — one of the world's best-preserved Roman cities, with colonnaded streets and intact amphitheatres. The route continues south to Petra, the UNESCO jewel carved into pink rock by the Nabataeans, where you walk the Siq to the Treasury. The desert of Wadi Rum offers a night in a Bedouin camp beneath an impossible starry sky. The Dead Sea allows the surreal experience of floating effortlessly in hypersaline water. The trip concludes in Aqaba, on the Red Sea coast, with snorkelling among corals and beach time before the return. Lodging in boutique hotels, Bedouin camps and family guesthouses. Transport in a private vehicle with a local driver.
Health & safety
- Drink only bottled water
- Do not let Dead Sea water get into your eyes
- Protect yourself from the sun: temperatures in Petra can exceed 40C in summer
