Extreme Canyoning and Climbing in the Serra de Tramuntana
Six days of rope-free climbing over the Mediterranean Sea and canyon descents on the island of Mallorca, with real risk on limestone cliffs.
Description
Mallorca offers one of the most demanding playgrounds in the Mediterranean for true adventure sports. This itinerary is designed exclusively for experienced athletes seeking the controlled yet ever-present danger of rope-free climbing over the sea, known as deep water soloing. On its north coast and in the Serra de Tramuntana, the island is home to some of the most challenging limestone walls in Europe. The Torrent de Pareis, a karst canyon that flows into the cove of Sa Calobra, is the second longest gorge in the Balearics and the most technical, with walls over 200 meters high that narrow into a natural tunnel. The descent requires rappelling, skill in navigating pools, and knowledge of hydrology to avoid flash floods. The via ferrata on the north coast combines cliff climbing sections with dizzying views of the sea. The coastal route along the Deià coast involves jumps from varying heights and passages through sea caves, with the swell as an unpredictable factor. The crystal-clear waters hide sharp submerged rocks that demand a precise fall. This is not a trip for beginners or for those seeking simulated adrenaline: the risk of falling onto rock, the sea conditions, and the isolation of the gorges make every activity a true survival challenge.
Health & safety
- Deep-water soloing carries a real risk of hitting the rock if you misjudge the entry into the water
- Submerged rocks not visible from the surface can cause serious injuries
- Canyoneering in narrow canyons carries a risk of hypothermia and flash floods
- Dehydration is a real risk on climbing days in the Mediterranean sun
