Dominican Republic by Night: Coco Bongo in Punta Cana, Colonial Zone Bars and Juan Dolio
Seven days of the best Dominican partying: Coco Bongo's shows in Punta Cana, beach parties in Bávaro, colonial bars in Santo Domingo and the beach-night side of Juan Dolio.
Description
The Dominican Republic does not only have beaches: its nightlife is among the most electric in the Caribbean. This 7-day itinerary captures the country's party pulse across three distinct scenes. Punta Cana — the epicentre of Dominican entertainment — hosts Coco Bongo: a cross between a nightclub, a Las Vegas show and a Caribbean party, with aerial artists, live tributes, confetti, foam and an energy that never fades until dawn. The Imagine clubs, set inside a natural cave, take the night to another level with international DJs among stalactites. Beach parties in Bávaro, with bonfires, bachata and merengue, are the most organic version of the Dominican party. Santo Domingo offers the colonial night: bars in the Colonial Zone, terraces along El Conde street and the university district with merengue and dembow at full volume. Juan Dolio on the southern coast is the bohemian beach, where wooden chiringuitos turn into clubs as the sun sets. Bachata, merengue and dembow sound from every corner, and mamajuana — the Dominican aphrodisiac drink — flows generously.
Health & safety
- Hydration — the Caribbean heat and rum dehydrate fast
- Drink bottled water: tap water is not safe
- Get back from the club in an Uber or trusted taxi: avoid walking alone after midnight
