Dominican Republic for Families: Santo Domingo, Punta Cana and Saona Island

Eight days of Caribbean family paradise: Santo Domingo's Colonial Zone, Manatí Park and Punta Cana resorts, catamaran to Saona Island and the Dominican Tuscany of Altos de Chavón.

8 days1 countryDecember-April: dry season, perfect temperatures, warm sea and no hurricanes

Description

The Dominican Republic is one of the Caribbean's most complete destinations for families. This 8-day itinerary starts in Santo Domingo, where the Colonial Zone — with its cobbled streets, the first cathedral of the Americas and the Alcázar de Colón — works like an open-air history book that fascinates children. From there you travel to the Punta Cana region, where family resorts with infinity pools, kids' clubs and shallow-water beaches make the perfect stage. Manatí Park offers encounters with dolphins, sea lions and tropical birds, plus educational shows. The catamaran excursion to Saona Island, in the East National Park, is the Caribbean highlight: sailing with music, white-sand shallows out in the sea where starfish rest, and a beach barbecue lunch. Altos de Chavón — a replica of a 16th-century Mediterranean village built in the 1970s above the Chavón river canyon — closes the trip with its amphitheatre, art galleries and the feeling of having stepped into Tuscany in the heart of the Caribbean.

Health & safety

  • Bottled water always — tap water is not potable
  • Extreme sun protection for the children: the Caribbean burns in minutes
  • Mosquito repellent at dusk
