Cuba in a Time Capsule: from Havana to Trinidad and Viñales
Nine days around the Caribbean's most authentic island: Havana, the mogotes of Viñales, colonial Trinidad, Cienfuegos and the beaches of Varadero.
Description
Cuba is a time capsule where 1950s American cars cruise colonial streets, son and trova sound from every corner, and the mojito is the national drink. This 9-day itinerary runs the island from west to east with Havana as the starting point. The Malecón — the 8-kilometer seafront — is the city's social heart at dusk. Old Havana, with its colonial squares, the cathedral and the Bodeguita del Medio, is a World Heritage site. To the west, the Viñales Valley unfolds one of the Caribbean's most spectacular landscapes: mogotes — jungle-covered karst formations rising out of the tobacco fields. Trinidad, in the south-center, is the best-preserved colonial jewel: cobbled streets, pastel houses and the feeling of standing in the 19th century. Cienfuegos, with its French air, and the final-few stop on the white-sand beaches of Varadero round off the circuit before the return. Unhurried rhythm, transport in almendrones (shared classic cars), lodging in casas particulares.
