Cuba for Families: Havana of the Children, Varadero and Cayo Santa María
Seven family days in Cuba: Havana's Chocolate Museum, a coco-taxi ride, the Varadero resort and the crystal waters of Cayo Santa María.
Description
Cuba is a surprising family destination: safe, full of color and packed with experiences that fascinate children. This 7-day itinerary starts in Havana, where the Chocolate Museum — right in Old Havana — is an essential stop: thick Cuban-style hot chocolate in a colonial mansion. The coco-taxi ride — a sidecar motorbike shaped like a yellow coconut — is the most fun way to cruise the Malecón. Callejon de Hamel, in the Cayo Hueso district, is an explosion of Afro-Cuban color and art where the murals, recycled sculptures and the Sunday drums hypnotise the children. From Havana you travel to Varadero, where family resorts offer shallow, calm beaches on the Hicacos peninsula. The journey culminates at Cayo Santa María — a caye joined by a 48-kilometer causeway built over the sea, with white-sand beaches, crystal water and family-oriented hotels facing the bluest Caribbean.
Health & safety
- Medical insurance is mandatory to enter Cuba — it includes the children
- Bottled water always for children — tap water is not potable
- Extreme sun protection for small children at the beach
