It crosses Nicaragua between volcanoes and lakes, sails the Mosquito Cays of Honduras, travels the Nicaraguan Corn Islands, and penetrates the border between Central and South America. Each day demands independence: taking chicken buses, sleeping in family-run lodgings, negotiating in Spanish with transport operators, and adapting to the logistics of countries with limited infrastructure. You'll travel through colonial cities such as León and Granada, Garifuna beaches, tropical rainforests, and the Darién jungle where the Pan-American Highway is interrupted. It's a route few complete.
