Contemplative Uzbekistan: Teas in Madrasas, Silk Road Spas and the Gardens of Tamerlane

Six days of serenity in Uzbekistan: teas on the terraces of Samarkand facing the Registan, the gardens of Tamerlane's hometown in Shakhrisabz, the Turkish baths of the Silk Road and endless afternoons by the Lyabi-Hauz pool of Bukhara.

6 days1 countrySpring (April-May) and autumn (September-October)

Description

Beyond its stunning architecture, Uzbekistan offers a unique contemplative experience: losing track of time on terraces facing the Registan, soaking in century-old Turkish baths and strolling gardens that tell the story of Tamerlane. This 6-day itinerary is designed for travelers who want the pleasure of simply being — at an unhurried pace, everywhere in madrasas converted into boutique hotels with inner courtyards. Samarkand unfolds its charms slowly: evening teas on the terraces of the Registan's madrasas as the sun dyes the turquoise domes gold, sessions at the Silk Road spa with essential-oil massages and Uzbek steam baths. The excursion to Shakhrisabz — hometown of the conqueror Tamerlane — reveals the ruins of the imposing Ak-Saray palace and rose gardens among 14th-century monuments. In Bukhara, life revolves around the Lyabi-Hauz pool, where green tea is sipped unhurried beneath century-old mulberries while locals play backgammon. Relaxed rhythm: two activities a day at most. Silk Road cuisine in garden courtyards.

Health & safety

  • Drink bottled water at all times
  • The Turkish baths can be very hot: leave if you feel dizzy
  • Uzbek sun is intense: use protection on the terraces
