Cameroon: From Douala to the Foumban Palace

Ten days traveling through Cameroon's cultural and natural diversity, from the coast of Douala to the royal palace of Foumban, taking in Mount Cameroon and the Bamenda Ring Road.

10 days1 countryDry season (November-February)

Description

This ten-day itinerary crosses the most vibrant essence of Cameroon, a country nicknamed 'Africa in Miniature'. It begins in Douala, the economic capital, with its port and colonial architecture. It then climbs to Yaoundé, the political capital set among seven hills, with its National Museum and the Reunification Monument. The natural adventure continues with the ascent of Mount Cameroon (13,435 ft), the highest active volcano in West Africa. The route descends to Limbe, a coastal gem with the Limbe Wildlife Center, a sanctuary for gorillas and chimpanzees. The Bamenda Ring Road reveals the anglophone highlands with waterfalls and Bamileke palaces. The trip culminates in Foumban, capital of the Bamoun kingdom, whose royal palace dating from the 14th century houses more than 3,000 pieces from one of Africa's oldest monarchies.
