Boracay: the island that dances, between beach clubs, fire dancing and sunsets with electronic music

Five days on the Philippines' most famous island, where the party starts on the beach at sunset and does not end until the last DJ kills the speakers at 4 a.m.

5 days1 countryFrom November to May for the Amihan dry season

Description

Boracay is a 7-kilometer bone-shaped island in the Western Visayas of the Philippines, famous for holding one of the world's most beautiful beaches and a nightlife that rivals the best of Southeast Asia. White Beach — its main stretch of 4 kilometers facing west — turns every evening into a spontaneous festival of music, fire and cocktails where the beach clubs compete for the best DJ and the best party. The fire dancers weave between the tables with their flaming torches, casting dancing shadows on the sand. Station 2 is the heart of the party, with clubs such as Epic and Paraw closing at 4 a.m. Bulabog Beach, on the eastern face, offers daytime kiteboarding and after-beach parties when the wind drops. Puka Beach at the north is the escape to recover among hammocks and coconuts before returning to the action. Boracay's sunsets are legendary: each evening, hundreds gather at the shore, cocktail in hand, to applaud the sun while the sunset-session DJs blend chill house. Filipino late-night cooking — lumpia and sizzling sisig — waits at the end of every night at the stalls of the main road.

Health & safety

  • Constant hydration between cocktails: tropical heat dehydrates quickly
  • Sunscreen is mandatory: Boracay's sun is extreme between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
  • Jellyfish appear in habagat season: check the beach flag
  • Beware of currents at Bulabog Beach: swim only in the marked areas
