Bangkok by Night: rooftops, night markets and the street that never sleeps
Five days in Southeast Asia's capital living the night from happy hour to dawn, among rooftop bars, clubs and after-midnight street food.
Description
Bangkok is Southeast Asia's city that never sleeps, where the night starts with happy hour at a financial-district rooftop and ends at 5 a.m. with a bowl of pad thai from a street stall that has just opened. This itinerary runs the four districts of Bangkokian nightlife: Sukhumvit with its rooftops and electronic clubs, Silom with Patpong and its two-storey bars, Thonglor with its signature-cocktail bars, and Khao San Road, where backpackers from every corner of the globe dance until dawn. The night markets are a culinary experience in the dark: Rot Fai with its vintage fair food, Jodd Fairs with its star pad thai, and Srinagarindra with antiques and live bands. Rooftop bars such as Vertigo, Octave and Sky Bar offer views over illuminated towers with signature cocktails. Live music runs from the jazz of Saxophone Pub to techno at Beam and reggae at Rasta Bar. Every day ends where the next begins: on the street, food in hand, under the neon.
Health & safety
- Hydration between cocktails is mandatory: tropical heat dehydrates fast
- Avoid ice at street stalls of doubtful hygiene
- Use Grab or Bolt to get back to the hotel: do not walk alone at night through dark areas
- Moderate the alcohol: tropical heat multiplies alcohol's effects
