Uganda and Rwanda: Mountain Gorillas and White Water Rafting on the Nile

The most intense adventure in East Africa: grade 5 rapids at the source of the Nile, chimpanzee trekking in Kibale and the most awe-inspiring encounter on the planet — face to face with mountain gorillas in Bwindi and Rwanda's Volcanoes.

11 days2 countriesFrom June to September and from December to February, during the dry seasons, when trekking trails are less slippery.

Description

This itinerary is conceived for extreme travelers seeking the maximum doses of adrenaline combined with one-of-a-kind encounters with Africa's great apes. Uganda and Rwanda offer a concentration of cutting-edge experiences that no other African destination can match. The journey starts in Entebbe, on the shores of majestic Lake Victoria, and quickly moves to Jinja, the Adventure Capital of East Africa. Here awaits rafting on the White Nile rapids: grade 5 descents through rainforest scenery with legendary names such as The Bad Place or Silverback. From Jinja, the trip ventures into western Uganda. In Kibale National Park you will go trekking to find wild chimpanzees. Queen Elizabeth National Park offers a classic safari and a boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel among hippos. The climax comes in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, home to half of the mountain gorillas left in the world. Hours of hiking through dense forest until you find a silverback only a few meters away. The route crosses into Rwanda for a second gorilla encounter in Volcanoes National Park, where Dian Fossey worked. It ends in Kigali with a visit to the Genocide Memorial.
