São Tomé and Príncipe is Africa's tropical secret: two volcanic islands in the Gulf of Guinea with primary forests and postcard beaches. It begins in São Tomé town with the tropical-fruit market and the São Sebastião fortress. Pico Cão Grande, a 2,175-ft volcanic monolith, is the archipelago's most striking photo excursion. To the south, Praia Jalé with green turtles and Ilhéu das Rolas sitting right on the equator let you stand with one foot in each hemisphere. The resorts offer spa treatments with cacao and coconut.
