Oman for Families: Turtles, Forts and Wadis with Children
Seven family days in Oman: Muscat's souks and Qurum beach, turtle watching at Ras al Jinz, shallow pools at Wadi Bani Khalid, Nizwa fort for little explorers and easy trails on Jebel Akhdar.
Description
Oman is surprisingly welcoming to families: safe, hospitable and with a nature that fascinates children. This 7-day itinerary is designed for traveling with small children, with manageable distances and adapted activities. It starts in Muscat, where children get lost in the maze of the Muttrah souk among incense and fabrics, and play on the white sand of Qurum beach with its mangroves. The highlight is Ras al Jinz, the green-turtle reserve where children watch the night-time egg-laying: an educational, magical experience supervised by biologist guides. At Wadi Bani Khalid, the turquoise pools have shallow zones ideal for children to swim safely. Nizwa Fort offers costumes and armour so the little ones can feel like Omani warriors. On Jebel Akhdar, easy trails between roses and pomegranates allow family strolls with mountain views. All lodging is in family hotels with pools.
Health & safety
- Drink only bottled water in the wadis
- The Omani sun is intense: apply sunscreen every 2 hours
- Carry mosquito repellent for areas with standing water
