Atlas Peak Traverse: From Toubkal to M'Goun
Eight days of high-mountain trekking climbing Toubkal (13,671 ft), North Africa's highest peak, and traversing the M'Goun massif through remote Berber valleys.
Description
This extreme itinerary takes the traveler to the most imposing heights of North Africa. It begins in Marrakech with the logistical preparation before heading to Imlil, the base village at the foot of Toubkal. The ascent of the Atlas' highest peak takes two days: one to the Neltner Refuge at 10,520 ft, and another to reach the summit at 13,671 ft, with views stretching from the Sahara to the Atlantic on clear days. After Toubkal, the route links up with the M'Goun valley along shepherd paths, gorges carved by water and villages clinging to the slopes. The trek culminates with the ascent of Jebel M'Goun (13,356 ft), a long rock ridge that tests physical and mental endurance. Nights are spent in mountain refuges and light tents, sharing tea with Berber guides. Eight days of pure mountain, far from roads and mobile coverage.
