- Aged eighteen (Constitutional Law on Nationality of the Republic of Tajikistan, art. 23)
- Residence in Tajikistan: 5 YEARS in total or 3 UNINTERRUPTED YEARS immediately before applying (art. 23(2))
- Recognised refugees: terms HALVED (art. 23(2) final)
- Absences for study or treatment ≤3 months do not break continuity (art. 23(3))
- Naturalisation is decided by the PRESIDENT (art. 22)
- Facilitating circumstances (shorten or waive the term, art. 23(4)): former USSR national; adopting a Tajik child; achievements in science/engineering/culture or qualifications of interest; services to the people of Tajikistan; refugee status; having been a Tajik national or close relative of one
- Refusal grounds (art. 24): advocacy of violent constitutional change; extremist organisation membership; convictions; document fraud
